Adventures in Walworth County

Community Education Travel -
CET 2022

Be on board for an adventurous day as we experience a safari without flying to Africa and a Fish Boil without riding to Door County. All this is just across the Illinois border in Walworth County, Wisconsin! Nestled against a backdrop of over 800 acres of wildlife habitat, Safari Lake Geneva is an animal adventure unlike anything else in the Midwest. This unique wildlife preserve is home to animals from around the world and created by Wisconsin’s foremost exotic animal expert, “Jungle Jay” Christie. Jay created this refuge for some of the world’s diminishing breeds. It allows these animals to roam vast acreages in Walworth County. We’ll embark on a narrated, guided safari expedition on an escorted wagon ride through this conservation park. Later, enjoy an animal encounter presentation with one of the habitat’s friendly residents! Our adventure continues at lunch, at Fitzgerald’s Genoa Junction, where we experience a Door County-type Fish Boil. As we arrive to observe the Fish Boil, fresh potatoes and whole onions will be boiling outdoors over a wood fire. Then fresh cod is added to the boiling kettles before the boil-over takes place. This cod meal is served with BBQ chicken, featuring their famous honey barbecue sauce. Fitzgerald’s historic Victorian Octagon house in downtown Genoa City is one of the few remaining eight-sided homes of its kind and a perfect place to close out our adventure!
