Eat More While Losing More
Adult Enrichment / Health & Wellness -
This program will provide participants with a research-based approach to successful weight loss beginning with research studies verifying what diets/approaches long term loss. Forget about calorie counting, portion control and restrictive diets. Research has shown the way to long term weight loss involves focusing on WHAT and WHEN we're eating not HOW MUCH. This class will clarify why old approaches such as cutting calories and exercising off excess pounds fail and why new research-proven strategies can work to get you in bathing suit shape. Participants will be able to - define the term ""Calorie Density"" and explain why and how this approach leads to successful weight management - define and clarify how hyperpalatable foods can lead to weight gain - list steps they can incorporate in their own lives to transition to more whole food, plant-based foods.
Joan Davis has a dual career which began as a secondary educator and eventually working as a nurse. She earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of IL Champaign, a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Lewis University and a Masers of Science in Public Health Nursing from the University of Illinois, Chicago. As a master-prepared nurse with over 20 years of wellness experience, she thought she knew about nutrition until her active, seemingly-healthy husband had a sudden heart attack. After that, her focus changed to plant based nutrition.
Joan earned a certificate in plant-based nutrition, began volunteering for Dr. Michael Greger’s popular NutritionFacts.org website, and became a board member of the Chicago area Plant Based Nutrition Movement. She now uses her teaching background and began developing programs that share the “why” and “how” of eating whole plant-based foods.
Her programs are designed to be interactive because involving the participants in the action makes the learning more meaningful. Of course, if samples of healthy food are allowed, that’s always popular too! Her dual background as a nurse and teacher helps her to present programs that capture your attention, yet present the latest research that is easily understood.
All of her programs are outlined on her website at www.plantbasedjoan.com/
