Everyone loves Kolaczki cookies, a traditional favorite Polish dessert! In this class, the instructor will share her special family recipe and traditions surrounding these delicious fruit and cheese-filled pastries that are light, buttery, flakey and melt in your mouth. This is a hands-on cooking class and all participants will leave with a batch of fresh cookies.
Theresa has been teaching culinary classes for District 214 since 2018, but her love for cooking started at the age of 18. Theresa made her first Thanksgiving turkey by herself - before the internet and YouTube videos! She is mostly self-taught, utilizing church cookbooks, hand-me-down recipes, verbal instructions from friends and family and has created many culinary successes and opportunities. Theresa likes to prepare meals with bold flavors.
Most of the classes she teaches are influenced by her Polish family and her husband’s Mexican heritage. As a young newlywed, she spent time in the kitchen with her mother-in-law, writing down recipes handed down from generations, quantifying her handfuls, ladle-fuls, splashes and sprinkles into measuring spoons and measuring cups.
Every time Theresa teaches a new class, she researches the dish or ingredients in the recipe and tries to learn something new, along with learning from her students. Theresa feels that cooking Is more than following a recipe or learning a technique and as an instructor, she wants to impart a love of cooking to participants and empower them with skills that can be used for a lifetime.
