Pickleball - Intermediate/Advanced
This is an independent play Pickleball program for high level Intermediate and advanced players only at skill level 3.5 or above. Formal instruction is not included in Independent Play, but individualized attention is available from the instructor to players on an as-needed basis. Due to the popularity of our pickleball classes, all refunds are subject to a $10 administrative fee.

This Pickleball class is for all levels. For those who have no experience, join the instructor to learn the fastest growing game around and for those of you with experience, play independently with others. Players will rotate during the round robin type play. Limited paddles available to borrow or bring your own paddles. This isn’t a typical haunted house, but an afternoon of vintage elegance and haunted history designed to enchant rather than frighten. Begin with a gourmet fall feast and wine in the stunning pavilion before exploring the world’s finest collection of automatic musical instruments, including the magnificent Eden Palais carousel. The day culminates in the historic mansion with a spellbinding concert on the world’s largest restored theatre pipe organ, accompanying a rare silent Halloween film produced on the estate. Celebrate the holidays at the spectacular Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills. Start with an elegant catered meal in the Carousel Building, dining alongside the "Eden Palais"—the world’s only complete European salon carousel. You'll marvel at its massive carved façade and Gavioli band organ while learning about this incredible collection. After lunch, head to the residence for a 90-minute holiday concert featuring the Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ, performed by the world-renowned Dave Wickerham. Conclude your afternoon with a self-guided tour of the mansion, where docents demonstrate a premier collection of restored antique music machines.

Presented on the second Saturday of each month in October, November, and December, these interactive shows feature quick-thinking performers, hilarious games, and spontaneous scenes inspired by audience suggestions. Perfect for all ages, each performance is unique, ensuring plenty of surprises and laughs every time you attend. Seed Saving from Vegetable Crops

You've planted a variety of edible plants and they have produced a bumper crop of sweet, crunch, flavorful fruits and vegetables. You would love to plant them again next year, but you dislike the thought of spending more money on seeds or plants. Why not save the seeds from your existing plants? In the workshop you will learn how to collect, preserve and store those precious seeds to ensure another successful crop next year.

Sewing for Beginners
Arts
Choose from two 6-week sewing classes for beginners, or take them both! Simplicity pattern S9202 will be used in both classes. The first session will focus on making a pair of polar fleece knit pajama/lounge pants and the second session will focus on making the top. Students will be asked to bring some basic sewing supplies, fabric and thread for the projects. Patterns will be available to use in the classroom, or students can purchase the pattern to have for themselves. You can bring your own sewing machine or use the Janome machines that are in the classroom.

Sourdough for Beginners

Learn the art of making sourdough bread from start to finish. This hands-on class will cover maintaining a starter, mixing and shaping dough, fermentation and baking techniques. Students will experience each step in the process including sampling delicious bread baked in class. The cost of the class includes all of the specialty tools needed to prepare your bread, including a proofing basket, dough whisk, scraper and lame. You will also leave with your own sourdough starter, dough to ferment and bake at home, recipes and the confidence to successfully make bread from start to finish.

Spanish - Beginning 1

It's true - Learning Spanish can be fast and fun! This engaging course is designed for beginners who want to learn Spanish for travel, business or personal enrichment. Students will focus on proper pronunciation, mastering the alphabet, conjugating regular verbs, and understanding the two forms of "to be" - ser and estar - in the present tense. With this foundation, students will build confidence through practical conversations: greeting others, asking and answering basic questions, dining at La Hacienda Restaurante, singing romantic mariachi songs, visiting the doctor's office, and following directions to popular destinations. The textbook, Spanish is Fun: Lively Lessons for Beginners, Book One, is required and can be purchased during registration or independently.

Welcome to Beginning Two! This class focuses on improving Spanish language skills while learning the irregular and reflexive verbs in the present tense. To enroll, students must have studied the Beginning One class or have knowledge of the regular verb structure and the two verbs, ser and estar (to be) in the present tense. With the increased knowledge of verbs, the students will learn to create the following situational dialogues: to describe one's family, shop for clothes, express love from the heart, buy/rent a residence, explain one's daily routine, plan a vacation and to dine on a matahambre dinner. The book used is Barron's 9th Edition, Spanish Now! Level One.
